Five minutes to expand your capacity in motherhood

When was the last time you finished one thought before somebody, or something, needed your attention?

Motherhood has an extraordinary way of expanding what you can hold. You learn to anticipate needs, make decisions with incomplete information, adapt plans in seconds and recognize the meaning of a sound from three rooms away. Then you take those abilities into your workday, where they can make you a more perceptive colleague, decisive leader and remarkably efficient problem-solver.

They are, quite honestly, superpowers.

And superpowers become much more useful when your nervous system knows how to access them without overwhelming you.

I created this five-minute guided practice to help your stress response settle, reconnect you with yourself and give you a little more capacity for the rest of your day.

You can listen at your desk, while feeding your baby, resting in bed or taking five quiet minutes before moving into the next part of your day. No candles need to be lit. Nobody needs to be asleep. You do not even need to feel calm before you begin.

Let my voice guide you and notice what happens in your breathing, your body and the space around you. You may feel a distinct shift. You may simply discover that your jaw was clenched and your shoulders were somewhere near your ears. Both count.

If five minutes can create a shift, imagine what a year of support could make possible

This practice offers a glimpse of The First Year of Motherhood™. Each month, you receive a freshly prepared botanical skincare and sensory ritual for the stage you and your baby are living. Each week, I guide you through the changes unfolding for both of you, with practical ways to support your nervous system in daily life. You will also be invited to a monthly live gathering and can reply privately when something arises that you would like me to understand.

I am opening the first season to 30 mothers. If you would like to explore it, add your name below and I will send you the full details before enrollment is shared more widely. Joining the waiting list does not commit you to enrolling.

Keep the practice nearby

I also created an infographic to help you return to the practice without listening to the recording every time. Save it to your phone, print it for your workspace or keep it somewhere you are likely to see it.

Return whenever you would like a moment to gather yourself. Even when you cannot change what the day is asking of you, you can influence what you bring into the moment that comes next.

Patience and love for your family. Presence and focus at work. When the mother is mothered, her nervous system has more capacity to adapt to both.

Matrescence, the process of becoming a mother, changes your brain, body, nervous system, relationships and sense of identity.

As you learn to care for your child, you develop a remarkable range of abilities. Motherhood can sharpen your discernment, adaptability, emotional intelligence and awareness of other people. It teaches you to recognize what matters, make decisions with incomplete information and accomplish an astonishing amount within whatever time is available.

"I grew a human this year. This week's achievement: one shower, start to finish."

I laughed when I first read that because it is funny. It is also true. Your capacity is expanding while your uninterrupted time appears to be vanishing.

You can miss your baby at 10:00 and feel grateful to finish an uninterrupted thought at 10:05. Work may return parts of you that motherhood has made difficult to reach, while motherhood sharpens your discernment, emotional intelligence and clarity about what deserves your time. Each part of your life can strengthen what you bring to the other.

What helps you access the capacities motherhood is developing?

Motherhood can expand you and wear you thin within the same afternoon. You may be more capable than you have ever been and still find that those capacities disappear when your nervous system is overloaded.

And the things that once helped you come back to yourself may no longer fit so easily. An hour-long yoga class, a long walk alone, dinner with a friend, even closing a door and knowing nobody will need you for a while.

Sometimes you have five minutes. Sometimes you have a baby in your arms. Sometimes the baby has just eaten and somehow needs to eat again.

You can desperately want an hour alone and then miss your baby ten minutes after somebody takes them. You can want fewer demands and still want to be the person your baby reaches for.

That is why the practices have to work inside your actual life.

Breath, touch, warmth, scent, rhythm and somatic awareness can give your nervous system something familiar to return to. With repetition, they can help you recover more quickly, move between work and home with less friction and stay connected to yourself while remaining close to your child.

Sometimes that looks like having enough room to stay curious when your child is struggling. Sometimes it means catching yourself before a small frustration takes over the evening. Sometimes it is simply being able to return to your work with your mind clearer than it was five minutes ago.

Mother and baby

Capacity grows through support, not suffering.

Your nervous system needs reliable ways to respond to stress, recover and return to steadiness. The five-minute practice is one example: something that works within motherhood, with the time and circumstances you actually have.

The same principle can live inside the ordinary rituals of your day.

Beauty is not decoration. It is regulation.

A beautiful scent, the warmth of oil between your hands, the texture of something made with care and the rhythm of using it each day give your senses something pleasurable and familiar to return to.

These experiences can become somatic anchors: small signals that bring your attention back to your body and remind your nervous system that care is available here, too.

The skincare in The First Year of Motherhood™ gives you a practical and pleasurable way to repeat that experience. You are already washing your face, bathing your baby, touching their skin and moving through small care routines each day. The ritual works through moments that already exist in your life.

Over time, scent, texture, touch and familiar rhythms can help your body recognize the way back more easily. What begins as skincare becomes a practice of returning to yourself.

How the rituals already feel

Customer testimonial

"There is nothing quite like washing your face at the end of a long day and putting on your face serum. It magically erases all of the hybrid teaching, mom of toddler, pregnant, and exhausted vibes from my day."

Customer testimonial

"I have rosacea so I was a little bit reluctant with using new products, everything irritates my skin. This stuff is gold. My skin feels so good after just one use, and no irritation."

Customer testimonial

"My little one got into the butter last night, or shall I say I didn't put the lid on. This time she ate quite a bit of it. What was nice was that we could just chuckle about it and not worry one bit."

The beauty is visible. The science is in every detail.

This work draws from peer-reviewed research, maternal care practices refined across generations, and current cosmetic safety and regulatory standards.

My approach combines the physiological foundation of my nursing background, my clinical aromatherapy training and practice, and my Somatic Experiencing knowledge of how the nervous system responds to sensation, stress and safety.

Together, these disciplines allow me to create care that works through the body and supports how you meet your motherhood, relationships and work.

I built the care I could not find

I was raising my daughter far from my family, with very little support, while running a business.

I could not build my wellbeing around hours of uninterrupted time or assume that another adult would take over when I reached my limit. I needed ways to help my body settle with my daughter nearby. I needed practices I could use in the few minutes available to me.

I also wanted to understand how motherhood could make me more capable in so many ways while ordinary days could still ask so much of my nervous system.

That search led me back to my healthcare background and into clinical aromatherapy and Somatic Experiencing. I began to understand how small, repeated experiences of touch, scent, breath, warmth and beauty could change the way I inhabited my life.

Over time, I created the care I had needed: practical enough to use with a baby in my arms, beautiful enough to bring pleasure into an ordinary day and intelligent enough to honour the magnitude of a woman's becoming.

That work became The First Year of Motherhood™.

First 40 Days ritual

What could a year of this care open up for you?

Some monthly rituals help you welcome a new season. Others complete the loop of a season that is ending and honour the threshold you and your baby have crossed.

They return to maternal care traditions found across cultures, traditions built on the understanding that caring for a mother is also a way of caring for her baby.

As the rituals and practices become familiar, you begin to know your own nervous system differently. You recognize what helps you settle, what restores you, what signals that you are nearing your edge and what helps you find your way back.

Over the year, these small experiences accumulate into something larger: a way of caring for yourself that belongs inside your actual life rather than somewhere outside it waiting for you to have more time.

You can finish a workday with enough of yourself left to enjoy your family. When your child calls for you, you have more room to meet the moment with warmth. At work, you can focus, make decisions and trust the intelligence motherhood has been sharpening in you.

This is a year devoted to helping you inhabit the woman motherhood is inviting you to become.
